About Cartier Serials
On most Cartier watches, the serial number is engraved on the case back. On some models (especially Santos, Tank, and Ballon Bleu), it is also engraved on the inner surface of the case where the case back meets the case. On newer pieces, it may be laser-etched.
Older Cartier pieces (pre-2007) use purely numeric serials of 5–7 digits. From approximately 2007 onwards, Cartier introduced alphanumeric codes beginning with a 2-letter prefix such as 'CD', 'PX', or 'BP' followed by digits.
Cartier has been less publicly transparent about their serial number system than Rolex or Omega. Production date ranges are approximations compiled by the collector community and authorised dealers. For an exact date, consult a Cartier boutique with the watch present.
